Monarch Tractor
When it comes to understanding and coordinating supply chains, electrification, and manufacturing, Mark Schwager’s deep experience rises to the top. With over 15 years coordinating the production of complex, innovative technologies, Schwager has developed more than 16 million square feet of manufacturing space. He has contributed to the growth and momentum of leading manufacturing organizations driving the world’s transition to EV, including Tesla, Zoox, Romeo Power, and now Monarch Tractor. At Tesla he helmed the operations planning team for the Fremont factory and was the program manager for the Tesla-powered Toyota Rav4. Beginning in 2013 he led Tesla’s first gigafactory in Nevada from concept through construction.
Recognizing the gains that safer and more efficient manufacturing processes have brought to workers and businesses, Schwager is working to bring a similar model to agriculture. Under Schwager, Monarch is translating EV technology and manufacturing-derived robotics into tools and equipment deployed in fields, crops, and barns with the purpose of elevating farming to the benefit of farmers, consumers, and the environment.
Just miles from Tesla’s Fremont factory, Schwager connected with Monarch’s other co-founders, Carlo Mondavi, Zachary Omohondro, PhD, and Praveen Penmetsa. It’s here, at the crossroads of California’s agriculturally-rich and tech-heavy regions, that Monarch Tractor is helping farming look forward to the future.
Schwager has a B.S. from Cornell University and a MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. Schwager was named to the SF Business Times 40 Under 40 list in 2022.
The traditional diesel tractor has not evolved in 100 years, making it long overdue for a makeover. Electrification is not just transforming vehicles; it’s transforming entire industries.
