Visually inspecting 3-point hitch fittings

Written by Monarch Tractor | Sep 10, 2024 10:03:12 PM

Maintaining the 3-point hitch is a three-step process.First, you’ll inspect the base of each lower arm, then clean and lubricate grease fittings. The last step is to confirm that the 3-point hitch is securely connected to the transaxle.

Before you begin

Here’s what you’ll need to safely complete this task:

  • Safety equipment required by your job site
  • Flashlight
  • Grease gun
  • Clean cloth
Step 1:

Inspect both lower arms The left and right arms connect to the transaxle with three bolts. In addition to the bolts, there is a tab washer that fits between the bolts and the transaxle. Each corner of the tab washer is folded over the bolts.

IMPORTANT: The tab washer must be cleanly folded over the bolts. The bolts should be completely seated, with no visible threads. If any threads are visible, immediately contact Monarch Tractor at 833-AGRI-PWR for assistance.

Step 2:

Clean and lubricate grease fittings There are three grease fittings on the bottom left arm and bottom right arm of the 3-pt hitch. All six fittings need to be wiped clean and then lubricated with a grease gun. Once you can hear and see a bit of grease escaping, you can disconnect the grease gun.

Step 3:

Check the tightness of the bolts Once the grease fittings are lubricated, the last step is to wiggle both the left and right arm. If either arm has excessive play, or if you notice movement between the arms and the transaxle, contact Monarch Tractor Service at 833-AGRI-PWR.
